Previous Performance Comparison Sets

Overview

Recomposer calculates logical performance goals (calculated maxes) for each set of each exercise, based on your previous performances. The following article describes how Recomposer selects the appropriate comparison set from your previous performances.

Set 1

Beating your overall PB (personal best) is the goal Recomposer assigns to Set 1 of every exercise. However, your program may assign a different goal (ie recommend a weight and rep combination that is less than your PB).

Sets 2, 3 and higher

On Sets 2, 3 and beyond, Recomposer bases your performance goal on the most recent workout (in which you performed the exercise).

For Set 2, Recomposer bases the goal on the 2nd best performance (calculated max) of the previous workout. For Set 3, the goal is the 3rd best previous performance. Set 4 is based on the 4th best previous performance; and so on for any additional sets.

If there was no equivalent Set recorded at the previous workout, Recomposer will display the PB as a guideline (with no expectation of achieving it, depending on the exercise).

Performance Philosophy

Recomposer recognises that your first working set (ie after warm-ups) is the only working set in which you have your maximum energy/strength availability for achieving your maximum possible performance. As such, the first set is the most logical set for trying to achieve a new, all-time personal best performance.

If you are achieving your maximum possible performance on each set, every additional set should see a performance decline. This is particularly true on the most productive and important exercises.

If your program says for you to perform significantly below your capability, it will override Recomposer’s calculated max goals by recommending both the weight and repetitions to perform.
